Swimmers Excel for Rochester in Win Over Nazareth

From University of Rochester Athletics

With Senior Day just one week off, the men's swimming and diving team had a chance for a number of competitors to step forward – and they did in a big way as Rochester defeated Nazareth College, 169-124 on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets (4-4) finished first in eight individual events, won the diving competition, and captured the 200 meter medley relay. Rochester swam the closing 400 meter freestyle relay as an exhibition event and the time would have finished first by 10 seconds.

All the events were conducted in meters. Lee Stovall won two events. He was first in the 200 meter freestyle (2:01.52) and the 100 freestyle (:56.76).

The other individual men's winners were Dylan Sharkey (first in the 800 free, 8:59.19), Russell Rosenkranz (first in the 50 backstroke, :28.12), Pat Davis (first in the 50 breaststroke, :31.54), Brett Maus (first in the 50 freestyle, :25.52), Arlen Fan (first in the 100 breaststroke, 1:12.28), and Brian Wong (first in the 50 fly, :26.71).

On the winning 200 meter medley relay which launched the meet, the Yellowjacket swimmers were Rosenkranz, Dan Myers, Wong, and A.J. Brewer. The relay was timed in 1:52.16.

The 400 meter freestyle relay was comprised of Gunnar Zemering, Sharkey, Stovall, and Nick Ranallo. They were timed in 3:43.67 as an exhibition.

Rochester's other top finishers were Ryan Berger (third in the 100 fly, 1:07.36), James Frauen (second in the 100 back, 1:00.12), and Max Gates (second in the 400 freestyle, 4:29.73). Reid swam the 200 IM as an exhibition and was timed in 2:21.82.
