Rochester Earns Three "B" Cuts and Two School Marks on Day 3 of UAA Championships

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester men's swimming team set two more school records and earned three NCAA B cut times as it sits in seventh place after day three of the UAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Emory University on Friday.

The Yellowjackets 200 medley relay kicked off the Friday finals with a strong swim, earning 6th place in a time of 1:32.74, a B cut and new school record.  That relay consisted of Russell Rosenkranz, Pat Davis, Brian Wong and Brett Maus.

The other two B cuts came in the same event as UR fielded a strong group in the 100 backstroke.  Senior James Frauen finished 4th overall, swimming a time of 51.04 in the A final, a time that would have been good enough to break his own school record.  But fellow senior Russell Rosenkranz would set a new UR mark in the B final, placing 9th in a time of 50.51 seconds, shaving over half a second off the mark.

Also, Callum Breene, Erik Rosenkranz and Brett Maus each swam in the C final of the 100 back, earning 22nd, 23rd and 24th respectively.

In the 3 meter diving competition, freshman Max Adler placed 7th with a score of 420.10.

The 800 freestyle relay squad earned 5th place in its race, with the group of Dylan Sharkey, Lee Stovall, Gunnar Zemering and Frauen earning a time of 6:53.49, just missing out on the school record.

In the 100 butterfly, Rochester had two swimmers make the B final, with Wong placing 11th in 50.56 seconds, missing the school record by .02.  Russell Rosenkranz also finished in 16th, swimming 57.06.

Sharkey and Zemering each made finals in the 200 freestyle, with Sharkey finishing 9th in 1:41.74 and Zemering placing 17th in 1:41.85.  In the 100 breaststroke, Dan Myers was 22nd clocking in at 59.70 seconds while Davis touched in 1:01.06, good for 24th place.
