Rochester Breaks Two School Records on Day Two of UAA Championships

The first full day of competition at the University Athletic Association swimming and diving championships was very fruitful for the Rochester men. The Yellowjackets broke two school records and posted two NCAA provisional qualifying times.
 
With five events complete, Rochester is sixth out of eight teams in the standings. The Yellowjackets have 235 points. There's a jam at the top with Emory, Chicago, and Washington all within 22 points of each other. Host Emory leads the group.
 
Gunnar Zemering was part of both records. He finished third overall in the 50 freestyle, covering the course in a provisional time of :20.68. In the trials in the morning, he swam the 50 to a time of :20.64. That broke the school record for the event and gave him the second seed for the evening finals.
 
He swam as part of the 200 free relay. In the trials, the Yellowjackets earned the number one finals seed with a clocking of 1:23.36. That broke the Yellowjacket school record for the event. In the finals Thursday night, Rochester was timed in 1:23.40. The relay swimmers were Zemering, James Frauen, Brett Maus, and Ryan Berger.
 
Rochester's other provisional qualifying time came from Dylan Sharkey. He finished 12th in the 500 freestyle, getting to the wall in 4:35.62.
 
Thursday's swim finished with the 400 medley relay. Rochester finished seventh in 3:26.18. The relay members were Frauen, Pat Davis, Russell Rosenkranz, and Zemering.
