Gabriel Bamforth Sets Carnegie Mellon Records in Home Diving Invitational

Freshman Gabriel Bamforth (Cambridge, Mass./CRLS) set two school records during the Carnegie Mellon University Diving Invitational on Friday and Saturday, November 13-14 at the Jared L. Cohon University Center pool.

Competing against divers from the University of Rochester and Washington & Jefferson College, Bamforth won the men's 3-meter event with a score of 474.20. The score is a pool and school record and also goes down as his first qualifying score for the NCAA Diving Regional which takes place in March.

Sophomore DeShawn Green (Newport News, Va./Warwick) finished the 3-meter event with 276.30 points in his first collegiate competition while senior Noah Fatsi (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) recorded a score of 257.80.

On Saturday, Bamforth was victorious on the 1-meter board, meeting the NCAA Regional qualifying score with a mark of 442.85. Fatsi finished seventh with 300.25 points, junior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) was ninth with 271.45 points and Green was 10th with 262.70 points.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Diving Regional, a diver must surpass the set scores two during the season. For the 3-meter board, 440 points are needed following 11 dives and 285 points are needed at a six-dive event. For the 1-meter board, 425 points are needed after 11 dives and 275 points are needed after six dives.
