Aaron Tam & 800-Freestyle Relay Claim All-America Honorable Mentions For CWRU

Case Western Reserve University senior Aaron Tam finished 13th in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly to claim an All-America Honorable Mention, and later teamed with sophomore Drew Hamilton, sophomore Oliver Hudgins and junior Andrew Henning to claim a second All-America Honorable Mention with a 10th-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay during the third day of competition at the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

During the morning preliminaries, Tam swam a time of 1:49.76 to break a 24-year old program record of 1:50.53, set by Jay Gindin during the 1992 season.  The senior returned in the finals to swim a time of 1:50.02, finishing 13th overall to claim the All-America Honorable Mention certificate.

To wrap-up the day, the 800-yard freestyle relay team finished 10th overall to claim the program's second All-America Honorable Mention in the event in as many years.  The team of Hamilton, Tam, Hudgins and Henning recorded a mark of 6:42.43, breaking their own school record of 6:42.65, set earlier this year at the 2016 UAA Championships.

Also in action on Friday, CWRU senior diver Connor Farrell wrapped up his collegiate career with a 20th-place finish in the men's one-meter dive with a score of 408.15.  Earlier in the meet, Farrell collected his first career All-America Honorable Mention with a 14th-place finish in the three-meter dive.

After three days of competition at the NCAA Division III Championships, the Spartans are in 30th place at the meet with 21 points.

The Spartans will wrap-up competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday.  Currently scheduled to compete for Case Western Reserve are Hamilton in the 1,650-yard freestyle, Hudgins in the 200-yard backstroke and all four of the Spartans' swimmers in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
