Eagles Earn Seven First-Place Finishes Against Division II Delta State

The Emory University men’s swimming & diving team earned seven first place wins in their meet but fell short to Delta State 157-137.

The Eagles were led on the men’s side by juniors Christian Baker and Mitchell Cooper and sophomores Oliver Smith and Henry Copses who combined to total six individual victories for Emory in the meet. The team also swam four NCAA qualifying times.

Copses led things off taking first in the 1,000 Freestyle with a time of 9:41.06. Baker followed by winning the 200 Free, touching at 1:41.36. Baker added a first place showing in the 500 Free, finishing at 4:36.04. Cooper added a pair of wins in the 100 Free (50.77) and 200 Back (1:52.84). He posted two of the Emory’s four NCAA “B” Cut times with his marks in the 100 Free as well as in the 400 IM (2nd, 4:05.64). Smith continued his dominance in the 50 Free this season, taking first again with a NCAA qualifying time of 20.66.

Smith was also part of the 200 Free Relay team along with Alexander Hardwick, Trey Kolleck and Aaron Schwartz that took first in the event with a NCAA “B” Cut time of 1:23.05. Other top finishes for the Eagles were senior John Galvin in the 200 Fly (2nd, 1:56.08) and 100 Fly (3rd, 53.35), Hardwick in the 100 Free (2nd, 47.23), sophomore Chandler Lichtefeld in the 200 Breast (2nd, 2:08.56) and senior Jared Scheuer in the 200 Back (2nd, 1:54.84). The 200 Medley Relay team of Cooper, Schwartz, Baker and Smith added a second place finish, touching at 1:32.74.
