Washington University in St. Louis junior Michael Lagieski qualified for the 2016 United States Swimming Olympic Team Trials following his performance May 27 at the Speedo Premier Spring Open in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.

Lagieski, a seven-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion and 13-time All-American, qualified in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:03.46. Since the Olympics are international competition, all events are in long course meters. The Olympic Trial qualifying time was 1:03.69.

"Making Olympic Trials was my goal ever since I had the opportunity to attend as a spectator in 2012. It is every swimmer's dream to be able to compete with the best in the world and I wouldn't have made it without the continued support of my coaches, teammates and family," Lagieski said. "They stuck with me through the past three years of training in addition to many failed attempts. It truly is a dream come true."

The U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be held June 26-July 3 in Omaha, Neb. The meet serves as the only selection meet for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The 100m Breaststroke prelims will be swam on the morning of Sunday, June 26. The meet will be shown on NBC and NBC Sports Network.
