Five More NYU Men Receive Honors at NCAA Championships

From NYU Athletics

Two members of the New York University men's swimming team competed during Friday night's session at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, which are taking place on Wednesday-Saturday, March 16-19, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.

The Violets currently sit in 10th place out of 52 schools in the team standings with 89 points, trailing leaders Denison University, who have 364.5 points.

Sophomores Adam Betts and Tim Kou each placed eighth in the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke (50.41) and breaststroke (56.43), respectively. Both swimmers placed 16th overall at the competition and took home Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

The 800-yard freestyle relay squad of Kou, Max Phillips, Austin Palmer, and Daryl Wang recorded an NYU-record time of 6:40.70 in their heat this morning, which put them in second place, awaiting the results of tonight's heat. Four teams in the final heat posted faster times than NYU's, giving the Violets a sixth-place finish in the event and All-America honors.

"We had a tremendous performance today by the men's 800 free relay," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "It was awesome to see the team jump up in the rankings and place so highly."
