New York University's men's swimming & diving team defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy by a score of 169-73 on Friday, January 22, at the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan.

Sophomore Chad Moody triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle (21.20) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.49), and was also a member of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay squad (1:27.34) along with senior Win Htet Oo, sophomore Joe Baron and freshman Joe Del Buono.

"I was very pleased with our performance tonight," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We had some great races and it was nice to see our guys come through."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior captain Daniel Tay won the 100-yard butterfly (51.52), placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.83) and competed on the winning 200-yard medley relay team with sophomores Baron, Adam Betts and Tim Kou, finishing with a time of 1:35.28.

- Sophomore Austin Palmer took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:45.16 and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.39).

- Freshman diver Max Falb was the runner-up in the three-meter competition with a score of 247.88, while sophomore Dylan Adler captured third place (226.28). The pair swapped positions in the one-meter competition, finishing with 204.45 and 241.50 points, respectively.

"I'm really proud of both of our guys," said Diving Coach Scott Donie. "They learned a lot of new dives, are starting to get comfortable with them and should be able to compete at the highest level."
