Several members of the New York University men's and women's diving teams competed on day one of the NCAA Division III Region 3 Championships, which are being held in Cambridge, MA, on Friday, February 24.

The meet serves as a qualifying event for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held March 15-18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX.

Connor Brisson won the men's three-meter competition with a score of 598.60. The 56.7-point margin of victory set a new pool record and was greater than the margin between second and sixth place.

"The men's side was strong and Connor had a great meet to win going away," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "It bodes well for the NCAA's."

Nick Lemieux also had a strong competition, taking 12th place (426.55).

"Nick tapped his feet on the board on one dive, so if not for that he would have finished much higher and would have had a chance to make it to nationals," explained Kolean. "He is a better one-meter diver."

In the women's one-meter competition, Carmen White finished just off the podium in fourth place (446.35), while Kelly Ryser took seventh (429.50).

"Carmen finishing fourth gives her a great shot at qualifying for nationals," continued Kolean. "Kelly had a fantastic meet and we will have to wait until tomorrow to see if she is selected."

Seniors Ashlie Pankonin and Nia Sorgente took 14th (409.30) and 15th (407.70), respectively.

"Ashlie and Nia each missed just one dive, but at this meet it is enough," said Kolean. "I feel good about their chances tomorrow on the three-meter."
