Emory Narrowly Edges Out Florida Southern, 135-127

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team improved to 3-0 in dual meets on the season as the Eagles narrowly edged out Division II Florida Southern 135-127 on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida.

Emory claimed six event victories including four individual top finishes to go along with four NCAA "B" Cut qualifying times to earn the program's first victory over the Moccasins in the all-time series dating back to 2012.

Senior Andrew Wilson swam to two first place finishes in the 100 Breast (56.20 – NCAA "B" Cut) and 200 Breast (2:03.43 – NCAA "B" Cut). Junior Oliver Smith added a first place victory and a NCAA qualifying time in the 50 Free, touching at 20.69 while sophomore Thomas Gordon posted a time of 9:40.99 to win the 1000 Free.

Wilson and Smith teamed up with freshman Sage Ono and junior Cooper Tollen to place first in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing with a NCAA qualifying mark of 1:31.65. Smith added another first place finish in the 200 Free Relay as he, sophomore Trey Kolleck, junior Alexander Hardwick and senior Hayes Burdette-Sapp swam a time of 1:24.15.

Other notable finishes on the afternoon were junior Henry Copses in the 1000 Free (2nd, 9:51.49), Ono (2nd, 50.76) and senior Mitchell Cooper (3rd, 51.50) in the 100 Back, senior Christian Baker (2nd, 1:55.12) and freshman Evan Brock (3rd, 1:57.67) in the 200 Fly, Kolleck in the 50 Free (3rd, 21.23) and the 100 Free (2nd, 46.97), freshman Connor McCourt (2nd, 1:55.16) in the 200 Back, Baker (2nd, 4:43.52) and Gordon (3rd, 4:46.48) in the 500 Free, Cooper (2nd, 52.22) and sophomore Zachary Chen (3rd, 53.02) in the 100 Fly and Wilson (2nd, 1:55.38) in the 200 IM.
