From Emory University Athletics

After setting two Division III records on Thursday evening, the Emory University Men’s Swimming and Diving team was back at it again on Friday night, setting two more Division III top marks as the team continued action at the Miami and SCAD Invitationals.

Following two days of competition, the Eagles are in second place with 553.5 points at the Miami Invite, only behind Denison (691.5) while the Blue and Gold are situated in third place with 324 points at the SCAD Invitational, trailing first place Wingate (695.5 points) and Keiser (450 points).

The 200 Medley Relay of freshman Sage Ono, seniors Andrew Wilson and Hayes Burdette-Sapp and junior Oliver Smith opened the evening in Oxford setting a new Division III record in the event with a time of 1:26.74. The previous mark was 1:27.54 set by Kenyon College at the 2015 NCAA Championships.

Later, and for the second consecutive night, Wilson set an individual Division III record with his 51.14 time in a first place finish in the 100 Breast. Wilson eclipsed his own DIII mark of 51.72 that he set at the 2015 NCAA Championships. On Thursday, he reclaimed the top DIII mark in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 1:45.57. Through two days, Wilson has either set or been a part of four Division III records: 100 and 200 Breast and the 200 and 400 Medley Relays.

Ono collected Emory’s third first place showing on day two in Oxford, taking first in the 100 Back while posting a NCAA “B” Cut time of 48.37 during preliminaries.
