Pair of National Titles on Day Two Help Emory Men Maintain NCAA Swimming & Diving Lead

The Emory Men's Swimming and Diving team added two more event national championships and two additional Division III records in the 200 Freestyle Relay and the 400 Medley Relay on day two of the NCAA Division III Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.

With the two event titles and national records on Thursday night, Emory maintained their lead over the rest of the field, finishing the day with 244 points through the first two days of action. Kenyon College checks in behind Emory with 214.5 points followed by Denison (193) and Johns Hopkins (177).

The group featuring sophomore Trey Kolleck and juniors Aaron Schwartz, Alexander Hardwick and Oliver Smith led off the evening, defending their 200 Freestyle Relay title. The group set a school record in the process, touching in a time of 1:19.03, more than two seconds quicker than the next fastest team.

The 400 Medley Relay consisting of Sage Ono, Andrew Wilson, Christian Baker and Smith closed out the second day of competition on a high note, capturing the title by over five seconds. The Eagles broke their previous D-III record of 3:13.03 in prelims at 3:12.96 with senior Mitchell Cooper swimming the butterfly leg in place of Baker before besting themselves during the evening session with a blazing time of 3:10.51.

Sophomore Thomas Gordon and Baker added All-American honors for the Eagles on Thursday in the 200 Freestyle. Gordon set the school record in the championship final in a time of 1:37.08 to finish second overall with Baker finishing seventh at 1:38.58.
