Andrew Henning of CWRU Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Second Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior men's swimmer Andrew Henning was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division III Men's At-Large Second Team for his athletic and academic achievements over his career as a Spartan.

This is the first career Academic All-America honor for Henning, after being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team earlier in the year.

The Academic All-America honor is the sixth earned by a member of the CWRU men's swimming and diving team in the program's history. In addition to Henning's award, Guy Genin was a third team selection in 1989-90, Jay Gindin was first team selection in both 1991-92 and 1992-93, and John Erickson earned first team selections in both 2005-06 and 2006-07. Henning is the third CWRU athlete to be named an Academic All-American this season, and the 96th in the history of Case Western Reserve athletics.

Henning has been a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that has qualified for the NCAA Championships each of the past two seasons. In 2016, his 800-yard freestyle relay team placed 19th at the NCAA Championships with a school-record mark of 6:42.43. The relay team also finished first at the 2016 UAA Championships, becoming the first CWRU squad ever to win a relay event at the UAA Championships.

This season, Henning and the 800-yard freestyle relay team qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing second in the event at the UAA Championships with a time of 6:45.24. Henning has set career bests in the 50 Free (22.48), 100 Free (46.59), 200 Free (1:41.58), 500 Free (4:37.93) and 1,650 Free (16:19.32).

Academically, as an Accounting major, Henning has recorded a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. He was named to the UAA President's Scholar-Athlete Team in 2016, and is slated to earn the honor again this year. In addition, he has earned UAA All-Academic honors each of his three eligible seasons.

Men's sports represented on the 'At-Large' team include fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
