Six Sophomores Are Winners for Yellowjackets vs. Brandeis

Six sophomores posted individual wins as the Rochester men's swimming and diving team defeated Brandeis on Friday evening in the season opener.

In all, the Yellowjackets won 11 individual swim events and both relays. Eric Feirouz and Connor Virgile were double winners. Virgile also swam on a winning relay. The other sophs who won were Danny Aronson, Evan Villafranca, Miles Markey, and Elliot Schwinn.

On Saturday, Rochester will swim against Brandeis again, as well as against Canisius. The meet will be scored as three duals – UR v. Brandeis, UR v. Canisius, Brandeis v. Canisius.

Senior Alden Brewer had one individual win (first in the 50 fly - :23.67) and was part of both winning relays. Freshman Eric Sonheim was an individual winner – first in the 100 free (:48.63).  Junior Lee Stovall took the title in the 100 fly (:53.98).

Feirouz was first in the 200 free (1:49.00) and the 100 IM (:56.52). Virgile was first in the 50 back (:25.89) and the 100 back (:55.02).

Aronson won the 50 breast (:28.60). Villafranca was first in the 50 free (:22.63). Markey won the 100 breast (1:03.97)/ Schwinn won the 500 free (4:58.88).

The 200 medley relay was first in 1:39.27. The competitors were Virgile, Aronson, Brewer, and Villafranca. The 200 free relay closed the meet. Rochester's combination of Brewer, Villafranca, Sonheim, and Aronson was time din 1:28.63.

Steven Savchik finished first on both boards. He scored a 264.67 for six dives on the one-meter board and totaled a 247.65 for six dives on the three-meter board. The final team score was Rochester 183, Brandeis 82.
