Rochester Senior Day Ends in Rare 149-149 Tie With RIT

The Yellowjackets said goodbye to their senior class and then the members of the Class of 2017 went out and produced strong results in a meet that had a bit of an unusual ending. Rochester and RIT tied at 149 points apiece. The tie gives UR an 8-3-1 record for the dual meet season.

The three seniors – A.J. Brewer, Cory Chan, and Ben Weinstein – each got into the scoring column for the Yellowjackets. Brewer won the 100 fly (:53.21) and swam on the winning 200 yard medley relay which launched the meet (1:37.39). The relay members were Connor Virgile, Fan, Brewer, and Danny Aronson.

Fan won two individual events – the 100 breaststroke (1:00.38) and the 200 breaststroke (2:13.39). Rochester's other double individual winner was Elliot Schwinn with victories in the 500 freestyle (4:55.24) and the 200 IM (2:01.44).

The single event winners were Aronson (first in the 50 free - :22.34), Eric Sonheim (first in the 100 free - :48.49), and Eric Feirouz (first in the 200 back – 2:00.11).

Weinstein was third in the 1,000 free (10:41.64) and third in the 100 free (:49.43). In the 200 back, Feirouz won, Virgile was second (2:00.88), and Chan was fifth (2:09.57). Feirouz finished second – .31 seconds behind the winning time – in the 200 free (1:48.79). Virgile was second in the 100 back (:55.16), and Brewer third (:55.54). Virgile was fourth in the 200 IM (2:08.67).

Jon Schubert was third in the 200 fly (2:07.14). Evan Villafranca was second to Aronson in the 50 free (:22.47). Weidman was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:1599). Lee Stovall swam to a third place finish in the 500 free (5:04.82). Paul Steve was second in the 100 fly (:54.50) behind Brewer's victory. 

In the final relay, Rochester's quartet of Feirouz, Sonheim, Stovall, and Villafranca hit the wall in 2:18.54 for second place.

Stephen Savchik produced a first and second on the diving boards. He was first on the one meter board (262.88) and second on the three meter board (249.90).
