Former Emory Standout Andrew Wilson Ties for Gold Medal in 100 Breast at World University Games

After throwing down the top time in prelims, former Emory University swimming standout Andrew Wilson tied for the Gold Medal in the 100 Breaststroke at the World University Games in Taoyuan City, Chinese Taipei on Monday.

Wilson posted a preliminary time of 59.69, just .16 seconds off the meet record time. In the championship final, Wilson got off to a strong start, opening with a 27.80 mark through the first 50. But over the final 50, Belarus' Ilya Shymanovich put forth a closing charge to tie Wilson for the top spot with an overall time of 1:00.15. Defending champion Dmitriy Balandin of Kazakhstan was also in the mix for Gold but ultimately settled for Bronze, touching at 1:00.17.
