Andrew Wilson was one of four swimmers to record a sub-1:00 time in the championship final of the 100 Breaststroke at the U.S. National Championships Friday night in Indianapolis, finishing fourth overall.
The fourth place effort was Wilson's third top-four finish at nationals this week, having also come in fourth in the 200 Breast on Wednesday and was second in the 50 Breast on Thursday.
Kevin Cordes won his third US national championship, setting a new American record in the 100 Breast final with a time of 58.74. Cody Miller was in second at 59.11 followed by Nicolas Fink at 59.40 and Wilson at 59.65. Wilson was in second at the 50-meter turn, just .21 seconds off Cordes' pace. However, Cordes extended his lead over the final 50 with Miller and Fink putting forth strong closing strides to overtake the former Eagle.
Wilson posted a new personal-best mark in the 50 Breaststroke championship final at 27.18 and was just edged out by an arm's length to 2016 Olympian Kevin Cordes who set a new championship record with a mark of 26.88. Rounding out the top four was another 2016 Olympian, Cody Miller, in third at 27.24 followed by Connor Hoppe in fourth at 27.28. Wilson's time was the 10th fastest swam in the world so far this year.
During the morning's prelims, Wilson posted the second fastest time at 27.29, trailing only Cordes at 26.89.
Wilson was part of a loaded field in the 200 Breaststroke championship final, competing against 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Josh Prenot and 2016 Olympian qualifier Kevin Cordes as well as Will Licon and former UGA standout Nicolas Fink.
Cordes and Wilson were neck and neck through the first 100 meters as both swimmers were under the world record pace but Cordes began to pull away over the final 50 to win the title in a time of 2:07.41. Wilson touched fourth in a time of 2:08.82 and was joined in the top-four by Fink (2:08.63) and Prenot (2:08.72).
In the morning session, Wilson put forth a dominant showing, winning the final heat by almost a body length over Prenot. Wilson threw down a personal-best mark of 2:08.64, the fastest time during the preliminaries.
