Washington University Captures Three Titles and Finishes Runner-Ups in UAA Championships

The Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming & Diving Championships with three titles and two school records while finishing as runner-ups on Saturday evening.

Emory University won the men's title with 1,650.5 points as the Bears finished runner-ups with 1,516.5 points followed by New York University (1269), University of Chicago (1192.5), Carnegie Mellon University (1033.5), Case Western Reserve University (786), University of Rochester (442) and Brandeis University (303).

Freshman Peyton Wilson followed a record breaking performance on Friday with another on Saturday en route to capturing the 200 backstroke UAA title and school record with a time of 1:47.62. Sophomore Kevin Van Cleave also posted a B-cut time during the 200 BK with a time of 1:50.61.

The Bears 400 freestyle relay team of junior Ross Brown, freshman Chase Van Patten, sophomore Andrew Pek and senior Justin Morrell set a new school record and won the UAA title by finishing the race in 2:59.93.

Sophomore Brandon Lum seized the UAA championship in the 200 butterfly with a 2016 qualifying time, 1:49.52. Senior Jordan Wheeler and sophomore Jason Hsu also finished with B-cut times in the 200 FL as Wheeler placed fifth (1:50.80) and Hsu eighth (1:52.39).

Seniors Andrew Ellison and Michael Lagieski also posted 2016 qualifying times. Ellison placed third with a season-best time in the 1,650 FR (15:51.93) and Lagieski finished fourth during the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:01.85.
