Brandeis Sweeps Tri-Meet

Competing at a tri-meet against Keene State College and Bridgewater State University, the Brandeis Swimming and Diving teams had some admirable performances. The men were victorious against both opponents, defeating Keene State, 155-69, and Bridgewater, 123-112.

On the men's side, freshman Richard Selznick (Las Vegas, Nev. / Palos Verde) and his classmate Daniel Wohl (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) were the sole multiple winners, taking two races each. Selznick took the 1000 -yard freestyle by over 40 seconds with a time of 10:14.52 and also was victorious in the 500 free, completing that race in 5:02.48. Wohl took a pair of 200-yard events, the freestyle and the breaststroke. In the 200 he posted a time of 1:47.25, over five seconds better than any other competitor, while in the breaststroke he won with a time of 2:18.85. The other winner for the men was freshman Marcelo Ohno-Machado (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines), who took the 100 free in 49.97. He also backed up Wohl in the 200, taking second place (1:52.56).

The men had a handful of second-place finishes, with one each from Ohno-Machado, sophomore Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y. / Syosset) (200 butterfly, 2:01.27), and freshman Joe Beletti-Naccarato (Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) (200 back, 2:05.11), and two from rookie Chase Chen (Villanova, Penn. / The Hill School), in the 50 (23.16) and 100 (50.11) freestyle races.
