Brandeis Records Highest Point Total at UAA Championships in 2.0 Era

The Brandeis University men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2018 University Athletic Association championships at Emory University with the team's best point total under head coach Mike Kotch.

Sophomore Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset)set a new school record for the second day in a row, lowering his own mark in the 200-yard butterfly by 0.68 seconds with a time of 1:52.06. He earned 17th place by winning the 'C' Final, though his time was the 10th-fastest of the final session of the meet.

The Judges also closed out the meet with a pair of records in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Zitelny swam the anchor leg for the seventh-place men's team, along with rookies Daniel Wohl (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill), Chase Chen (Villanova, Pa. / The Hill School) and Marcelo Ohno-Machado(San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines), as they turned in a time of 3:08.86.

Rookie Richard Selznick (Las Vegas, Nev./Palos Verde) turned in the second-fastest time in Brandeis history in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:22.37. Selznick lowered his personal-best time by nearly 20 seconds, and now sits 16 seconds off the school record. He placed 15th overall. Senior Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) also scored in the mile with a time of 17:01.16, good for 23rd place.
