Emory Wins Home Invitational Behind Nine First Place Efforts

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving scored 664 out of a possible 1,911 points, edging Wingate University at the Emory Invitational this past weekend at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center.

The Eagles took home the top spot at their home invitational, besting Wingate by 47 points as the Bulldogs posted 617 points. Catawba College placed third with 258 points followed by Lenoir-Rhyne University at 204 and Limestone College with 168 points.

Emory was led by nine first place finishes with senior Oliver Smith and sophomore Trevor Burke earning a pair of top finishes. Smith touched first in both the 50 Free (20.38) and 100 Freeestyle (45.94) with Burke sweeping the diving events with scores of 291.08 in the 3-meter and 296.63 in the 1-meter, both marks representing NCAA B Cuts.

Smith also was a member of two winning relay teams, helping the 200 Free and 200 Medley to top finishes. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Smith, senior Aaron Schwartz, junior Trey Kolleck and sophomore Sage Ono posted a time of 1:22.84 with the 200 Medley Relay of Ono, Smith, Kolleck and senior Cooper Tollen touching at 1:32.11.

Ono, juniors Thomas Gordon, Matt Rogers and freshman Sven Mesihovic added event victories for the Eagles with Rogers winning the 200 Backstroke (1:53.74), Ono taking the 100 Backstroke (50.76), Gordon claiming the 1000 Freestyle (9:36.72) and Mesihovic touching first in the 400 IM (4:05.00).
