Emory Men's Swimming & Diving Win 20th Consecutive UAA Title

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team captured its 20th consecutive University Athletic Association title as the 31st annual UAA Championships concluded on Saturday night at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

The Eagles racked up 1,725 points as a unit across the championship meet, posting the largest team total as well as largest margin of victory since 2013. NYU finished in second place with 1,519 points and Washington ended the meet in third with 1,492.5.

Junior Thomas Gordon was named the Swimmer of the Year after winning three individual events and helping the Eagles to a victory in the 800 Freestyle Relay, setting the UAA record at 6:40.56. Gordon recorded wins in the 500 Freestyle (4:28.65), 200 Freestyle (1:39.34) and 1,650 Freestyle (15:34.65).

Head Coach Jon Howell and assistant coaches Cindy Fontana, Chris Marshall, John Petroff and Bobby Hackett was named Coaching Staff of the Year for the second straight campaign and for the fourth time overall.

In total, the Eagles collected 11 event titles, 19 All-UAA honors and set six conference records.

On Saturday night, Gordon, senior Oliver Smith and the 400 Freestyle Relay notched event wins for Emory while the team as a whole tallied eight All-Association honors.

In addition to Gordon in the 1,650 Free, Smith set a UAA record as he took home top honors in the 100 Freestyle at 44.53. He later added another relay win to his ledger as Smith, sophomore Sage Ono, junior Trey Kolleck and senior Aaron Schwartz closed out the meet in the 400 Free Relay, throwing down a new UAA record mark at 2:59.03.

Ono and Kolleck turned in All-UAA performances on the evening with Kolleck placing second in the 100 Free (44.68) and Ono taking third in the 200 Back (1:49.01). Junior Tyler Curran finished in a time of 15:58.22 to claim second in the 1,650 Free with senior Cooper Tollen and sophomore Evan Brocknotching third place efforts: Tollen in the 200 Breast (2:02.50) and Brock in the 200 Fly (1:48.79).
