From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior men's swimmer Drew Hamilton was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Men's At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his athletic and academic achievements over his career as a Spartan.

This is the first career Academic All-America honor for Hamilton, after being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team earlier in the year.

The Academic All-America honor is the seventh earned by a member of the CWRU men's swimming and diving in the program's history. In addition to Hamilton's award, Guy Genin was a third-team selection in 1989-90, Jay Gindin was a first team selection in both 1991-92 and 1992-93, John Erickson earned first team selections in both 2005-06 and 2006-07, and Andrew Henning was a second team selection in 2016-17. Hamilton is the fifth CWRU athlete to be named an Academic All-American this season, and the 102nd in the history of Case Western Reserve athletics.

Over his career, Hamilton was a four-time NCAA qualifier, collecting five All-American certificates and claiming six All-UAA honors. During the 2016-17 season, he earned All-America Honorable Mention in the 500-yard freestyle (15th, 4:30.51) and in the 400-yard individual medley (ninth, 3:57.85) at the NCAA Championships.  Hamilton also earned All-UAA in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a second place finish at the UAA Championships. As a sophomore in 2015-16, Hamilton was a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished 10th at the NCAA Championships. In addition, that relay team was the UAA champion in the event, becoming the first CWRU squad ever to win a relay event at the UAA Championships. During the 2014-15 season, Hamilton earned All-America Honorable Mention in the 800-yard freestyle (14th) and in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15th) at the NCAA Championships. He also became the first CWRU swimmer (male or female) to be named UAA Rookie of the Year. Hamilton earned the honor after finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle at the UAA Championships, while also adding a second-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley and a second-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Hamilton currently holds six individual program records and is a member of two school-record holding relay teams.

Hamilton received the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in early May, and was awarded the NCAA's Elite 90 Award at this year's NCAA Championships, presented to the athlete at the meet with the highest cumulative grade point average, becoming the first CWRU swimmer and third CWRU athlete overall to claim the honor. He graduated with a major in Accounting and Spanish, and carried a 3.947 cumulative grade point average with an incredible 141 credits accumulated during his time at the school.  He plans on attending law school next year. Hamilton also received CWRU's Bill Sudeck Outstanding Student-Athlete Award, considered the department's top award presented to a student-athlete.

Men's sports represented on the 'At-Large' team include fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
