The New York University men's swimming & diving team completed day three of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday, March 23. The meet is being held in Indianapolis, IN, from Wednesday-Saturday, March 21-24.

The Violets currently sit in fifth place out of 48 teams with 177 points. Denison University leads with 412.5 points.

Emory University (220), Kenyon College (209) and Johns Hopkins University (202) round out the top five.

"We kept the momentum going tonight and swam great," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We are getting faster as the meet goes on and I am looking forward for a big day tomorrow."

Ian Rainey, who became the first NYU men's swimmer in team history to win a national title by taking the 200-yard IM on Wednesday and the 400-yard IM on Thursday, earned another All-America honor on Friday. The Westport, CT, native finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly is a time of 1:47.50. Teammate Sean Haechler also swam in the event and took Honorable Mention All-America accolades with a 13th-place finish.(1:49.23).

"I'm proud of the way Ian raced today and capped off a stellar individual performance this weekend," said Assistant Coach Erica Belcher. "Putting fourth-place points on the board for the team was huge."

A pair of Violets earned All-America honors in the 100-yard breaststroke, as Giorgio DelGrosso and Tim Kou finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 54.50 and 54.71.

"Tim went out fast, while Giorgio made his move on the back half and just edged out Tim for fourth," Miele explained. "Both performance were impressive."

Connor Brisson, who placed second in the three-meter dive on Wednesday, repeated the performance on the one-meter board on Friday. His point total of 521.20, trailed only Samuel Randall of SUNY Geneseo (521).

"Connor dove as well as I've ever seen him," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "He missed one dive in the middle of the round and clawed his way back. He came so close in both events. I couldn't be more proud of his career at NYU."

Chad Moody earned Honorable Mention status in the 100-yard backstroke with his 10th-place finish in a time of 49.49.

The 800-yard relay team of Rainey, Nianzhong Liu, Kou, and William Looney also earned All-America honors with a sixth-place, school-record time of 6:39.57.
