From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's swimming & diving team opened up its 2017-18 season with a 176.5-116.5 victory over host Rowan University on Saturday, October 14, in Glassboro, NJ.

NYU won 10 of 16 events to coast to its first victory of the season.

"It was a good start to the year," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We had some competitive races and I was happy to see a strong showing from our freshmen and our returners."

Tim Kou continued his impressive NYU career with a pair of individual wins and a relay victory. The senior captain, who earned four All-America honors last season, won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.58) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.71), while helping lead the 200-yard medley squad (1:34.04), as well. Kou was joined on the 200-yard medley relay team by Chad Moody, Joe Del Buono and Joe Baron.

Ian Rainey also won a pair of events for the Violets, swimming to first place in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:39.15) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.12).

Connor Brisson swept the 1- and 3-meter dives, scoring 321.65 and 336.35, respectively.

"I was pleasantly surprised how we dove today," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "We haven't practiced much yet, but Connor was impressive and had a qualifying zone score."

- Carlos Colmenares won the 200-yard breaststroke, completing the race in 1:56.39.
