Three Double Winners Lead Rochester Men's Tennis Victory

NORTH CHILI, N.Y. - Three men were double winners on Thursday afternoon as Rochester defeated Roberts Wesleyan College, 7-2, in a men's tennis match on the road.

Matt Levine and Ben Shapiro paired up at #2 doubles to give Rochester its second team point, an 8-4 win over Robert Beer and Erick Rauchle. Levine secured the team's fifth point, clinching the match, when he defeated Sam Thorold, 6-4, 64, at #2 singles. Shapiro earned his second victory of the afternoon in three sets, defeating Rauchle, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 10-5.

Julian Danko was a double winner as well. He paired with Boris Borovcanin at third doubles to win, 8-1, over Matt McCall and Andy Messinger. It was Rochester's first team point of the afternoon. Danko also won, 6-2, 6-4, against Beer at #3 singles.

The other Yellowjacket points came from freshmen Jonny Baker (6-1, 6-0 vs. McCall at #5 singles) and Josh Jachuck (6-1, 6-2 vs. Messinger at #6 singles). Jachuck's win made it 4-1 and Levine secured the victory in the next match to be completed.

Borovcanin lost, 6-2, 7-6 (2) to Charlie Farres at #1 singles. Farrees and Thorold paired to defeat freshmen Tony Zhao and Alex Hollenberg, 8-5, at #1 doubles. That cut Rochester's lead to 2-1 before singles play began.

Baker, Jachuck, Levine, and Danko promptly won to nail down the team win.
