Washington University in St. Louis freshman Jeremy Bush and junior Ross Putterman continued their run in the 2014 NCAA Division III Doubles Championship with a straight-set victory in the quarterfinals Friday in Claremont, Calif.
Bush and Putterman, the No. 2 seed in the 16-team draw, ousted Michael Holt and Taylor Shamshiri of Washington & Lee University 6-3, 6-4. With the win, Bush and Putterman improved its overall record to 25-9.
"We have gotten better each time out and have some good chemistry going," said Putterman. "After the team loss in the quarterfinals, this was an opportunity for us to be fresh in the doubles championship and bring some wins home to Washington U."
The duo takes on No. 4 seed Eric Klawitter and Chris Krimbill of Case Western Reserve University in the semifinals Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (PT). The national championship match is set for 2 p.m. Saturday. Bush and Putterman defeated Krimbill and Klawitter 8-4 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) semifinals April 25 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
