CWRU Makes The Grade With ITA All-Academic Award

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Led by seven Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes, the Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team earned a 2014 ITA All-Academic Award.

The seven Spartans to earn individual honors accounted for all four classes on the team – recent graduates Derek Reinbold (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor) and John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton), rising senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem), rising junior Christopher Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and rising sophomores Adam Collins (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), Kevin Dong (Bishop, Ga./Athens Academy) and Phil Gruber (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro).

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Scholar-Athlete status is awarded to those that have completed at least two collegiate semesters and maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 during the academic year.

The Spartans finished the 2013-14 campaign ranked No. 8 in the ITA National Poll. The squad became the first in school history to play in the NCAA Elite 8, and just days later, Krimbill and 2014 graduate Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) won the 2014 NCAA Doubles Championship.

Academically, Krimbill was named just the third Capital One Academic All-American® in team history, and Reinbold became the first CWRU student-athlete to win a prestigious NCAA Elite 89 Award.
