From Emory University Athletics
The No. 4-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened the University
Athletic Association Championships on Thursday, rolling to an
opening-round victory over New York University. The No.
2-seeded Eagles captured their fourth straight match and raised
their record to 16-5 following a 9-0 triumph over the No. 25
Violets who slipped to 7-2. The Championships are being are
held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The No. 3 doubles team of senior Ayush Bajoria and
junior Eric Halpern posted an 8-1 triumph to give Emory
its first point of the contest, while the junior tandem
of Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagnerraised their spring
record to 9-5 after an 8-6 triumph over Steven Wu and Aaron Meltzer
at first doubles. The recently paired duo of
senior Jackson Isaacs and sophomore Will
Adams came away with their third win in as many outings with
an 8-5 verdict at No. 2 doubles.
Emory recorded four straight-set victories in doubles with
sophomore Rafe Mosetick getting this started with a 6-3,
6-2, win over CJ Leong at No. 3, raising his record to 11-7 (9-4 at
No. 3). Other straight-set wins were recorded by Wagner,
Adams and senior Nick Szczurek. Ruderman at No. 1 and Halpern at
No. 2 battled to three-set wins with Ruderman upping his won-lost
slate to 18-3 following a 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 outcome over Wu while
Halpern chalked up his 20th win of the year, a 6-4,
3-6, 10-6, decision over Meltzer.
Emory will meet No. 9-ranked and No. 3 seed Carnegie Mellon in a
semifinal match on Friday that is slated for a 2:00 pm start.
The Tartans opened the Championships by defeating Rochester, 7-2.
