Steven Wu of the New York University men's tennis team was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as a 2014 Division III All-American on Wednesday, June 11.
A player must meet any of the following criteria to earn ITA
All-America honors in singles:
1.) Top-eight seed in NCAA singles tournament
2.) Win one round at NCAA singles tournament
3.) Finish in the Top-20 in the final ITA Rankings
4.) Win United States Tennis Association (USTA)/ITA Fall Regional
Tournament
5.) Win first-round match at the USTA/ITA National Small College

Wu earned the honor by meeting several of the ITA's singles
criteria: top-eight seed at the NCAA singles tournament (Wu was
seeded #7) and finishing in the top 20 in the final ITA rankings
(Wu was ranked #18).
The senior captain joined four other Violets in team
history to be named ITA All-Americans: Demetrios Leontis
(singles-2002), Mikhail Gurevich (singles-2007), Alex Stoler
(doubles-2009), and Patrick Whitner (singles/doubles-2009).
"This is a capstone in recognition for everything he's done in his
career," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "This was a
goal he set for himself and something I talked to him about as a
freshman with then-Assistant Coach Donald Person. I'm very happy
that he was able to achieve that goal."
