Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon Garners Second Straight Capital One Academic All-America Honor

Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Alla garnered second team accolades for the second straight year becoming the second Tartan men's tennis player and first since Boris Sofman in 2004 and 2005 to earn back-to-back honors.
    
The junior carries a 3.83 GPA and is a civil and environmental engineering major with a minor in business administration.  Alla finished the season with a singles record of 25-12 and earned his second straight All-America honor after advancing to the quarterfinals at the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship. In the fall, Alla was the runner-up at the ITA Southwest Regional.  

For his career, Alla has amassed a singles record of 66-26 and was the 2013 USTA/ITA National Small College Singles Champion in the fall before advancing to the round of 16 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship, earning All-America honors.  Following the 2012-13 season, Alla was named the ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year.  He is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete.
    
Alla is a member of the Mayur South Asian Student Alliance, the American Society of Civil Engineers and has volunteered at Krushi Orphonage teaching kids tennis while engaging with children during festivals.  He is also the vice president of Chi Epsilon, an honor society for civil engineers (ASCE).
