#35 Brandeis Sweeps Babson, 9-0

The Brandeis men's tennis team came from behind in a pair of doubles matches and swept singles action today as the 35th-ranked Judges defeated visiting Babson, 9-0, indoors in the Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges improve to 6-8, including 5-0 at home. Babson falls to 7-3. 

Brandeis started the match with three doubles wins. After rookies Ethan Saal (Scarsdale, N.Y./Abraham Joshua Heschel School) and Eric Goldberg (Solon, Ohio/Solon) opened with an 8-5 win at No. 3, the Judges had a pair of comeback wins at the top two spots. At No. 1, sophomores Jeff Cherkin (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) and Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) faced match point against Connor DeFiore and Victor Vu, trailing 7-6. The Judges held off the Beaver duo and rallied to win that game and the next two after, winning the match on Babson's serve, 9-7. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and junior Danny Lubarsky(Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) were down, 6-5 on serve, but won three in a row to close out Ramone Doyley and Roberto Perez, 8-6.

In singles action, Brandeis clinched with two relatively quick wins at the top spots. Arguello dispatched Vu, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, while Granoff defeated Perez, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 1. The middle of the lineup saw the Judges win a pair of tiebreakers in the second set, with Lubarsky defeating Felix Wee, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3 and Alec Siegel(Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) earning a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Doyley at No. 4. 

At No. 5, Cherkin earned another win over DeFiore, 6-4, 6-2, while junior Kevin Dupont (No. Dighton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Roy Murdock.
