#33 Brandeis Rolls to 9-0 Win Over Coast Guard

The 33rd-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team rolled to its third win of the season and first in six matches today, defeating the U.S. Cuast Guard Academy Bears, 9-0, indoors in the Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges improve to 3-5 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-2. 

The Judges' top performer on the afternoon was sophomore Ryan Bunis (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable), who dropped just five games in two matches. He teamed with senior Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. At No. 3 singles, Bunis defeated Weston Fortna of Coat Guard, 6-2, 6-1. 

Brandeis had two other double winners in the match. Sophomore Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) teamed up with junior Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, then rolled to a 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 1 singles over Robert Renfrow. Classmate Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) owned the No. 2 positions, winning 8-5 in doubles with fellow sophomore Jeff Cherkin (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East), then taking a 6-2, 6-1, win in singles over Mark Guentert.

Rounding out the singles wins for the Judges were senior Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) with a 7-5, 6-2, win at No. 4; junior Eric Miller (San Diego, Calif. / Francis Parker) with the only three-set singles win at No. 5, 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 in the super tie-breaker at No. 5; and junior Kevin Dupont (No. Dighton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) with a quick 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 6.
