From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team opened the season at Allegheny College in the Nancy J. Heath Tournament, facing the host Gators and winning 7-2 after trailing 2-1 following doubles.
Playing No. 1 doubles was senior Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and freshman Edward Ang (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista). The pair won their match 8-2 giving the Tartans a point.
The Tartans went on to sweep singles with sophomore Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) winning 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 position and sophomore Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) winning 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) won 6-3, 6-3 while Duncan won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 7-6(5).
Both senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and freshman Jeffrey Chen(Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won their matches in three sets as Beisswanger won at No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 and Chen at No. 6 singles, 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-3.
