Carnegie Mellon Men's Tennis Upsets No. 1 Trinity, 5-4

With a three-set victory at second singles, senior Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) pushed the 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team past No. 1 Trinity University on Wednesday, March 11, 5-4. The Tartans improve to 7-6 while the Tigers drop to 9-4.

Seniors Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and Heaney-Secord picked up the first win of the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Trinity then went on to win third doubles and squeaked out a win at second doubles by a 9-7 score over senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School).

Junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) tied the match at 2-all with a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles, just before sophomore Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

The Tigers took a 4-3 lead with three-set victories at No. 3 singles and No. 6 singles before Duncan tied it at 4-4 with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, 6-7, 6-0, 7-5.

It was then left to Heaney-Secord at second singles who came through in his third set with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win.
