From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The No. 8 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team finished in sixth place to conclude the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III National Team Indoor Championship hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College at the Swanson Tennis Center.

Early Saturday, the Spartans (4-3) defeated No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus (3-3) by a score of 5-4. Then in a match that lasted into the early morning of Sunday, the Spartans fell 5-4 to No. 12 Kenyon College (4-2).

Against Gustavus Adolphus, the Spartans rallied from a 3-0 doubles deficit. In singles, junior CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) defeated his opponnent in straight-sets at No. 1 (6-2, 7-6).  At No. 5 singles, sophomore Joshua Dughi (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) was second to finish with a 6-3, 7-5 win.  

For the tie, senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) picked up a win for CWRU at No. 2 singles taking down his opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.  To give the Spartans the first lead of the day, junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) wom 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3.

Clinching the victory for the Spartans, junior Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) came back from a setback in the second set to defeat his No. 4 opponent 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

In the second match of the day against Kenyon, the Spartans had a 2-1 edge after doubles play. Krimbill and Stuerke at No. 1 singles and Drougas and freshman Andrew Komarov (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) at No. 2 picked up points for the Spartans with scores of 8-4 and 8-5, respectively.

The Spartans lead continued to grow to 4-1 as singles got underway where Krimbill quickly defeated his opponent in straight sets at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1) and Simhardri outscored his foe at No. 3 (7-5, 6-2).  

Kenyon then went on to take the next four singles matches to win the match.
