Will Drougas, Bas van Lent Lead Spartans to Two Victories on Senior Day

Seniors Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) and Bas van Lent (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) each won both their singles matches as the Case Western Reserve men's tennis team defeated College of Wooster (9-0) and Oberlin College (8-1) on Senior Day.

The Spartans opened the day with its sweep of Wooster. Drougas teamed with junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) also won 8-1, and the No. 3 duo of freshmen Andrew Komarov (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Tytus Chen (San Jose, Calif./Mountain View) earned an 8-2 victory.

Drougas followed that with a 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while van Lent posted a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) win at No. 4 singles. Krimbill moved down to No. 2 singles for the day so Drougas could play No. 1 and recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Wooster. Stuerke, Joshua Dughi (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades), and freshman Chen also earned straight-set wins in singles to complete the 9-0 victory.

The Spartans swept Oberlin in doubles with Drougas and Simhadri earning a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. Krimbill and Stuerke won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Kamarov and Chen earned an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Drougas and van Lent each posted three-set wins after dropping the opening set in singles play. Drougas won 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. , while van Lent posted a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

Stuerke (6-2, 6-4 at No. 3), Komarov (6-3, 6-1 at No. 4), and Dughi (6-2, 6-1 at No. 5) all earned straight-set wins.
