Spartans Win Second Consecutive Match to Finish Fifth at Stag-Hen Invitational

The No. 12 Case Western Reserve men's tennis team swept doubles en route to a 7-2 win over nationally ranked Wesleyan University to finish fifth at the Stag-Hen Invitational, which featured eight ranked teams, including seven in the top-13.

Senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, VA/Salem), and juniors CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) and Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) each earned a pair of wins.

Drougas teamed with junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, CA/Lynbrook) for an 8-0 win at second doubles, while Krimbill and Stuerke posted an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Frehsman Andrew Komarov (Buffalo Grove, IL/Adlai E. Stevenson) and sophomore Tytus Chen (San Jose, CA/Mountain View) earned an 8-5 win at third doubles to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Spartans won four of six singles matches with Krimbill looking impressive again, taking first singles 6-4, 6-1. He dropped only eight games in four sets in the CWRU two-match winning streak. 

Drougas took the first set at second singles 6-3 before falling in a tie-breaker in the second set. He rebounded with a 6-3 win in the third set to take the match.

Stuerke and Bas van Lent (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) also gained victories in three-set matches. Stuerke won at fourth singles, taking the final two sets 6-2 and 6-1 after dropping the first set 7-5. The senior van Lent lost 6-2 in the openng set before coming back with a 7-5 win in the second set and 10-7 victory in the super tiebreaker.
