No. 12 CWRU Defeats No. 15 Whitman, Falls to No. 9 Pomona Pitzer

The 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve men's tennis team defeated No. 15 Whitman 7-2 in the consolation semifinals of the 2015 Stag-Hen Invitational after dropping a 7-2 decision to ninth-ranked Pomona Pitzer in the opening round.

The Spartans took a 2-1 lead over Whitman after doubles. Juniors CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) and Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) won 8-3 at first doubles, and the third doubles comination of freshman Andrew Komarav (Buffalo Grove, IL/Adlai E. Stevenson) and Adam Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory.

CWRU earned five of six singles points, all in straight sets, with Krimbill and Stuerke taking their matches at first and fourth singles, respectively. Krimbill won 6-4, 6-3 and Stuerke posted a tight 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, VA/Salem) dropped only four games in taking the match at second singles, while junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, CA/Lynbrook) matched Stuerke's winning scores.

Freshman Tytus Chen (San Jose, CA/Mountain View) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at sixth singles.

In the morning loss to Pomona Pizter, the Spartans fell behind 3-0 after doubles and dropped four of six matches in singles.

Krimbill dropped just three games in his win at first singles, taking the second set 6-0. Simhadri won 6-3, 6-4 at third singles to account for the other CWRU point.
