From Emory University Athletics
Emory University seniors Alex Ruderman and Ian
Wagner closed out an outstanding performance by the Eagles'
program over the weekend at the ITA South Region Championships by
capturing the doubles title.
The Emory duo, seeded No. 1, came away with an impressive 8-3
triumph over the No. 2 seeded North Carolina Wesleyan tandem of
Robert Kjellberg and Sebastian Sikh in the battle for the
crown. Ruderman and Wagner staved off 0-40 deficits in the
first two service games and bolted out to a 5-0 advantage before
Kjellberg and Sikh registered their first point in the
match.
It was an especially productive weekend for Ruderman as he also
took home the singles hardware earlier in the afternoon.
As a result, Ruderman and Wagner both earn All-America recognition
and will now move into the ITA Small College National
Championships, Oct. 9-12, in Sumter, South Carolina.
