Emory Reaches ITA National Indoor Final

From Emory University Athletics

The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team has advanced to the title match of the ITA National Indoor Championships after posting a victory over No. 5 Washington University in the semifinals. The Eagles upped their spring record to 4-0 after topping the Bears by a 6-3 margin.  The National Indoor Championships are being held in St. Peter, Minnesota and hosted by Gustavus Adolphus.

Emory gained a big edge in the match after sweeping doubles.  The No. 3 team of junior Rafe Mosetick and David Omsky posted the first point of the contest with an 8-3 triumph over the Bears' Shaun Berman and Johhny Wu.  Senior Eric Halpern and freshman Scott Rubinstein came through with an 8-4 decision at No. 2, while the senior duo of Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner closed out the sweep with an 8-4 outcome over Ross Putterman and Jeremy Bush at No. 1.

Emory nailed down the first three singles matches, all of which were come-from-behind triumphs.  Halpern upped Emory's lead to 4-0 after battling to a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win against Putterman at No. 2.  For the second straight match, Mosetick provided the deciding point for the Eagles at No. 3, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 verdict against Bush, which included a stirring comeback in the third set after facing a 2-5 deficit.  Shortly after, Ruderman raised his spring singles record to 4-0 after coming away with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win vs. John Carswell at No. 1.  Wash U came away with the singles points at Nos. 5, 4 and 6, respectively.
