From Emory University Athletics
The No. 6-ranked Emory men's tennis team has advanced to the
title match of the ITA National Indoor Championships after posting
a victory over No. 5 Washington University in the semifinals. The
Eagles upped their spring record to 4-0 after topping the Bears by
a 6-3 margin. The National Indoor Championships are being
held in St. Peter, Minnesota and hosted by Gustavus Adolphus.
Emory gained a big edge in the match after sweeping doubles.
The No. 3 team of junior Rafe Mosetick and David
Omsky posted the first point of the contest with an 8-3
triumph over the Bears' Shaun Berman and Johhny Wu.
Senior Eric Halpern and freshman Scott
Rubinstein came through with an 8-4 decision at No. 2, while
the senior duo of Alex Ruderman and Ian
Wagner closed out the sweep with an 8-4 outcome over Ross
Putterman and Jeremy Bush at No. 1.
Emory nailed down the first three singles matches, all of which
were come-from-behind triumphs. Halpern upped Emory's lead to
4-0 after battling to a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win against Putterman at No.
2. For the second straight match, Mosetick provided the
deciding point for the Eagles at No. 3, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4,
7-5 verdict against Bush, which included a stirring comeback in the
third set after facing a 2-5 deficit. Shortly after, Ruderman
raised his spring singles record to 4-0 after coming away with a
3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win vs. John Carswell at No. 1. Wash U came
away with the singles points at Nos. 5, 4 and 6,
respectively.
