Emory University senior Alex Ruderman battled his way
to the ITA South Region Singles Championship Sunday afternoon at
the Woodruff PE Center.
Ruderman, the No. 1 seed, defeated No. 2 seed and defending singles
champ, teammate Eric Halpern in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4,
marking the second straight year and eighth time in the past nine
seasons that an Emory player has won the singles title.
Earlier in the day, Ruderman battled his way to a 7-5, 6-4,
marathon decision over fellow Eagle Rafe Mosetick in the
semifinals, rallying from a 3-0 deficit in each set. Halpern
punched his ticket to the finals by virtue of a 6-3, 6-4,
outcome over teammate Ian Wagner.
Ruderman's first-place effort enables him to earn All-America
honors for the 2014-15 campaign and propels him into the ITA Small
College Championships, Oct. 9-12, in Sumter, South Carolina.
