NYU Defeats Vassar, 8-1

The New York University men's tennis team defeated Vassar College 8-1 on Saturday, April 11, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.

In #1 doubles, junior Sidd Thangirala and freshman Ian Combemale picked up a 8-6 victory over Vassar's Nick Litsky and Daniel Cooper. NYU won the next two doubles matches, as well, with senior Billy Smithline and sophomore Sammy Aronson winning #2 doubles, and senior CJ Leong and sophomore Matt DeMichiel winning #3 doubles.

The Violets also dominated singles play, winning five of the six matches to earn the 8-1 victory and improve to 2-4 on the season. The Brewers dropped to 6-8.

"It's good to get a win with contributions from everyone," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Aronson's win in #2 doubles was the first of his college career.

"We're happy that Sammy picked up his first college win," added Choy. "He's worked very hard in practice this year and has worked his way into our rotation."

- In addition to their doubles wins, Leong (#2), Combemale (#3) and DeMichiel (#5) earned singles victories, as well.

- Freshmen Samuel Khoshbin (#4) and Karan Goyal (#6) picked up the final two singles wins for NYU. Khoshbin defeated Vassar's Evan Udine 6-1, 6-0, while Goyal defeated Alexander Luckmann 6-4, 4-6, 10-6
