The University of Chicago men's tennis team swept Oberlin College and Wheaton College 9-0 on Saturday.

The No. 17-ranked Maroons improved to 5-2 on the year. The Yeomen fell to 1-4 and the Thunder dropped to 1-2. The matches marked the second and third time this year that UChicago has shutout an opponent.

In the first match-up of the day versus Oberlin, the Maroons did not drop a set and did not allow more than six games in any match. Four different players won both their singles and doubles matches – freshman Nicolas Chua, senior Deepak Sabada, freshman David Liu and freshman Luke Tsai.

"We came out a little passive in doubles, but the guys did a nice job of bringing more energy in singles," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "As a young team, we are still developing a consistent mental approach to our matches, but I'm confident we are getting better at it the more we play. All in all, it was a complete match against a solid opponent."

UChicago then faced Wheaton in the nightcap. The Maroons came out strong, winning all three doubles contests without dropping more than four games. The home side then grabbed all six singles matches and only lost five combined games in the second sets. Sophomore Max Hawkins, Chua, Liu and Tsai each went 2-0.

"The guys really came out firing in the second match and it showed in the results," Tee said. "Maybe they had Valentine's dates to get back to, but they played like they were on a mission. All in all, the day was successful because we got in a lot of matches, competed hard, and made strides in many different areas. We are looking forward to a couple good weeks of practice before returning to face UIC."
