In its first tournament of the season, the University of Chicago men's tennis team produced a solid team showing at day one of the Purdue University Fall Invitational on Friday.
The Maroons took on a field comprised mostly of NCAA Division I opponents. UChicago posted a 7-5 record in doubles and a 4-6 mark in singles. Sophomore Max Hawkins won 12 of 13 games in his singles victory and also teamed up with freshman Luke Tsai to win a pair of matches in doubles. Sophomore Sven Kranz won in three sets in singles and was 2-1 in doubles with senior partner Ankur Bhargava.
"Today was a great test for us and I feel like we performed extremely well against some top-notch competition," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "I was pleasantly surprised by our doubles results and am hopeful it's a sign of things to come. As we continue to play more matches, I'm confident we will continue to improve throughout the weekend and also to mesh as a team."
