Maroons Blaze Through Whittier 8-1

From University of Chicago Athletics

The University of Chicago men's tennis team kept its hot streak rolling by defeating Whittier College 8-1 on Thursday.

The No. 13-ranked Maroons (11-2) won their ninth-straight match while the Poets fell to 1-10.

Despite a close loss at No. 1 doubles, UChicago proceeded to dominate the remaining eight matches. The Maroons were locked in and lost only one game in the second set of their six singles matches. The day's multiple winners included freshman Nicolas Chua and freshman Luke Tsai. The team has now won 47 of its last 48 singles matches.

"The guys really came to play today and competed until the end and it showed in the scores," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "Losing only one game in all of the second sets shows how focused and locked in we were. We are looking forward to a good night's rest before testing ourselves tomorrow against a very tough Pomona team."
