Three Doubles Wins Aid 5-4 Rochester Victory over NYU

Rochester took all three doubles pairings , but needed a win at #6 singles to grab a 5-4 victory over New York University in men's tennis on Saturday afternoon. The win evened Rochester's record at 6-6.

Aaron Mevorach defeated Jiri Honajzer, 6-4, 7-6 (5), at #6 singles to wrap up the victory over the Violets. Down 3-0 after doubles play, NYU stormed to victory in three straight matches – at #1, #3, and #4 singles to tie the match at 3-3. Ian Baranowski put Rochester back in front with a three-set win (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) over C.J. Leong at #2 singles. The Violets evened it again at 4-4 when Matt DeMichiel topped Sam Leeman, 6-4, 6-2, at #5. That set up Mevorach's match-winning triumph at sixth singles.
 
In doubles, Baranowski and Mevorach defeated Sidd Thangirala and Ian Combemale, 8-5, at #1. At #2, Ben Shapiro and Jonny Baker were 8-3 winners over Billy Smithline and Alex Jacobs. Julian Danko and Leeman provided a crucial third point, defeating Leong and DeMichiel, 8-5, at #3.
