No. 5 Washington Advances to Regional Championship Match

The No. 5-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team rolled into the St. Louis Region championship with a 5-0 sweep over Carthage College in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Saturday in St. Louis.

WashU improves to 19-5 with the win, while Carthage ends its season with a 20-7 record. The Bears take on the winner of No. 15 Whitman College and Sewanee: University of the South in the Regional championship Sunday at Noon.

The Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles for the ninth time this season. Senior Ross Putterman and sophomore Jeremy Bush rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win seven-straight games to post an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Senior Kevin Chu posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, and then freshman Johnny Wu clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
