Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon Earns Third CoSIDA Academic All-America Honor

Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis senior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) has been selected to the 2016 Academic All-America Division III At-Large Men's Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Alla garnered second team accolades for the third year becoming the first Tartan men's tennis player to earn the honor three times.

Alla closed his collegiate tennis career in the semifinals of the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Friday, May 27 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. With the finish, Alla became the second Carnegie Mellon tennis player to reach the NCAA semifinals. In each of the last two seasons, Alla bowed out of the tournament against the eventual national champion. Alla has earned three All-America awards for his career, won the 2013 ITA National Small College Singles Championship and tallied an 87-35 singles record to go with a 27-13 doubles mark.

The senior graduated with a 3.83 GPA in civil and environmental engineering. He is a member of the Mayur South Asian Student Alliance, the American Society of Civil Engineers and has volunteered at Krushi Orphonage teaching kids tennis while engaging with children during festivals. He is also the vice president of Chi Epsilon, an honor society for civil engineers (ASCE).
